About Strangr
Strangr is an anonymous, voice-only chat service. Two people, or a small group of up to eight, are randomly connected for a real-time conversation. There is no video. There is no signup. There is no fixed identity. You start talking, and when you're done, you walk away.
Why voice, why anonymous
Most social products today reward performance: pretty photos, polished captions, the right opinion at the right time. Voice conversations between strangers are different. You can't curate your tone. You either listen or you don't. That's the format we wanted to bring back. Removing video removes the visual performance pressure. Removing signup removes the temptation to build a persona. Whoever you are today is who shows up.
Who uses Strangr
- Language learners practicing with native speakers, with live captions to bridge the gap.
- Introverts who find typed chat draining and voice less so.
- People on the road looking for a friendly conversation on a long drive or commute.
- Visually impaired users for whom voice-first is more accessible than typical social apps.
- Anyone who wants 5–30 minutes of talk without the small print.
How it works
- Open the site. We create an anonymous account for your browser automatically.
- Pick your interests, language, and mood (optional). Click "Start talking."
- You're matched within seconds. Audio flows peer-to-peer through your browser.
- Turn on captions if you want subtitles. Translate them if the other person speaks a different language.
- Skip, save as friend, or just hang up when you're done.
Group rooms
Beyond one-on-one matching, Strangr has public group rooms for 3–8 people. Create a room with a topic, invite people, and host a small open conversation. Hosts can mute and remove participants.
Safety and moderation
We take safety seriously. Text messages run through a profanity filter. Users can report each other with one click; if a user accumulates several reports in a short time window, they are temporarily muted from new matches pending review. Our Community Guidelines describe what is and isn't allowed.
Privacy
We do not record live calls. We do not require your name or email. See our Privacy Policy for the details.
How it's free
The Service is supported by display advertising. We may show ads from Google AdSense or similar networks. Ads are labeled and do not appear during a live call.
